One Pill. One Step.
Plan B® One-Step is a backup plan that helps prevent pregnancy after birth control failure. The sooner you take emergency contraception, the better it works. Plan B® One-Step is just one pill, which allows you to get what you need right away. Other emergency contraception requires two pills, twelve hours apart.
With Plan B® One-Step, you have up to 72 hours (3 days) to prevent a pregnancy. Plan B® One-Step is not the abortion pill and it isn’t a substitute for routine birth control.
When did you have contraceptive failure or unprotected sex?
- Sperm can live in the female reproductive tract for 3 to 5 days.¹ ²
- Plan B®; One-Step is NOT the abortion pill (RU-486).
- A woman's chances of becoming pregnant from unprotected sex are about approximately 20-25% each cycle–even if it's her first time.³
- Douching, washing or urinating after sex does not decrease the chances of conception, as sperm enters the cervix immediately and is out of reach.4
- A 28-day cycle is only an average; every woman's ovulation cycle is different and varies.¹ ³
- A woman can become pregnant from unprotected sex that takes place anytime from 5 days before ovulation to 1 day afterwards.¹

Plan B® One-Step is intended to prevent pregnancy after known or suspected contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse.
Plan B® One-Step isn't effective if you're already pregnant, and it won't terminate an existing pregnancy. Plan B® One-Step does not protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, and dizziness. If your period is more than a week late, you may be pregnant. You should not take Plan B® One-Step if you are already pregnant. Plan B® One-Step should not be used as a routine birth control, as it is not as effective. If you have severe abdominal pain, you may have an ectopic pregnancy, and should get immediate medical help.
